Darkness, darkness
Peace be still
Thoughts closing in
Peace be still
Slowly I descend
Peace be still
Nothing, nothing
Peace be still
*
Failure around every turn
I cannot shake it
I cannot ignore it
Failure around every turn
*
Will it consume me?
Will it overtake me?
Who will be the One?
*
Rest
Listen
Quiet
Pray
*
Darkness, darkness
Peace be still
Pray, pray
Peace be still
Darkness, darkness
Peace be still
Pray, pray
Peace be still
Jesus is my peace even in the darkness of my thoughts.
The mind wanders and strays to the darkness of what ifs and why nots. I climb out of the pit only to slip and tumble back in again. Regret is my master. Never-enough is my guard.
The mind is a trickster for the analytical ones. There is no refuge in the mind. There is no solace. We wrestle daily in the gloom of over-analysis. Peace is not our friend, so the mind says. Thought is our mistress.
Which way will the scale tip today? Faith in one hand. Fear in the other. Even when my faith feels strong, fear fights back with a vengeance. Fear will not let loose its hold on my mind.
Every moment, thinking, thinking. What, where, why, how, when, but…the list goes on. Wave after wave after wave of darkness. The torment continues.
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!”. And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. ~Mark 4:39 (NKJV)
The darkness of thought has no equal…
except for Jesus.
He says, “Peace, be still!”
They aren’t just three little words coming out of His mouth. There is a comma that signifies a pause. Peace (pause) be still – He says to the angry sea. That pause signifies a command. It changes the tone of the entire phrase. One little comma reinforces the power within.

Darkness, darkness?
Peace, be still!
Thoughts closing in?
Peace, be still!
Slowly I descend?
Peace, be still!
Nothing, nothing?
Peace, be still!
Failure, fear?
Peace, be still!

When darkness seeks to lay it’s deathly grip, no person on this earth can rescue us. We cannot fight this battle alone. Only Jesus through his Holy Spirit can speak the words to still the mind.
Peace, be still!
