Reclaim the Generations

Last week, I had the privilege of attending a worship conference. Well, that’s what most would call it, but we call it a school. It’s an intensive, immersive 5-day gathering of people who want to learn and grow and, well, yes, worship God.

There’s music, but there’s also homework. We pray, read, listen, ask questions, sing and worship Jesus. We sing songs of praise and adoration to Jesus Christ.

During my personal prayer time on one of the days, I heard something that I have not been able to shake. I believe the Lord wants me to share it, so here goes.

*

Take authority over the generational mindsets tonight. I have already provided for what the generational mindsets lack. I have made a way where the generations have said there wasn’t a way.

I am breaking generational curses in this school in the now. It isn’t just “now” like you think. It is the now in the future

You think you know, but you don’t yet know the generational impact of what’s being done “here” and “now”. It is not just in your natural bloodline. It is in the generational bloodlines where My people have detoured in the spirit.

Reclaim the generations.

Reclaim the generations.

Reclaim worship for the generations in your spirit line.

I have called you to the generations. The generations have been weakened by the attacks of the enemy. But I am rebuilding the generations through the worship in My Spirit.

Take up the mantle. Carry it with you wherever you go. Don’t drag it along behind you as if it was a ball and chain. Stand tall in the power and might of My Glory. I have given it to you. It is yours. You do not carry it alone. Others have come alongside you to carry it too.

Carry the mantle of praise. Carry the mantle of worship. Carry it in the authority I have given to you on the cross.

And…Selah.

I am still processing this word from the Lord, but I believe it to be a vital word for this generation of church going people. For anyone who says they are a Christian, this word is for you.

Generational mindsets: lack, fear, confusion, anger, privilege, poverty, inequality, unfairness, self-reliance, pride, rejection – from older generations to current, there’s a mindset that hangs over each one.

I hear it in speech. I read it in posts. I observe it in actions or choices. I’ve even seen and heard it in my own life. No one is immune from mindsets that have been handed down from generation to generation.

So how do we change those generational mindsets? Good question. Each of us individually have to be aware of our own speech. What we say – written or spoken – tells us where we dwell in our thoughts.

Every thing we say or do must be weighed against the Word of God. I’m not talking perfection here. I’m talking being mindful, or rather, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

Be alert, be alert, be alert. Be aware of what you, and others, say. Open ourselves to the new with God. Open ourselves to the Holy Spirit changing us, changing our thoughts, changing our mindsets.

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ

2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV)

The moment we hear ourselves making sounds of rejection or lack or anger or fear or fill in the blank – that is when we need to become aware of that sound and take our thoughts captive.

There’s much more to it than just taking the thought captive. We have to replace it with what God says about us or our situations.

  • We are children of God, engrafted in through the work of Jesus Christ.
  • He has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love and a sound mind.
  • He is with you wherever you go.
  • Be filled with joy toward the Father who has lavished love on us, as His children.
  • He is Jehovah Jireh.
  • Put your hope in God, who knows this world will bring us trouble, so He provided a way of peace for us through Jesus.

And perhaps the most important of all: God loves. He does not affirm or accept. He loves us enough to allow us to choose.

I grew up without a father figure in my life. One could ask, “How can you view God as Father when yours wasn’t in your life much?”

Fair question.

All I can say is that God loves me. I know it. I feel it. I believe it. He relates to me as a Father should. I read in the Bible where He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die for me so that I might live for all eternity with Him.

He’s loved me through my questions. He’s loved me through my rejecting Him. He’s loved me through tears and sorrow, joy and laughter, and every confusing, empty, relief-filled moment in-between.

God made me to be a worshiper. God calls me to the office of Prophet. God empowers me to write the things He shows me, but only in His time.

This is a word for today: Reclaim the generations through holy worship!

We are to reclaim the generations through holy worship of the one true God. For He has given us power to set the captives free, power to break the chains of generational thinking that has enslaved us, and power to change the atmosphere around us through sound.

Worship is that sound. Not just any worship. Holy worship.

Jesus is coming back for His bride. I don’t want to present myself as someone who lives in a mindset of lack, fear, rejection or pride. I want Him to see Himself in me. I want to reflect who He is to those around me. The more time I spend with Him, in His presence, the more I reflect Him.

Will that make me look different? Yes. Will I be a peculiar to some? Yes. Will I fit in with today’s culture? Nope. Shoot, I may not even fit in with today’s church culture.

And that’s okay. I am my beloved’s and He is mine.

I will worship Him in spirit and truth to reclaim the generations.
